The Initial Idea
Developed as a first-year project at EPITA, Confront The Unknown was an ambitious attempt to create a high-stakes, low-poly horror experience. The vision was a 5-player cooperative game where teamwork isn't just a feature, but a survival requirement. We wanted to drop players into a claustrophobic bunker and force them to communicate and strategize to escape a relentless threat.
Conception
Built using Unity and C#, the project involved complex systems integration. We implemented Photon for seamless multiplayer networking and Photon Voice for immersive proximity-based chat. One of the technical highlights was the procedural map generation (using Kartograph), which ensured that no two runs felt the same. We also developed a custom AI killer using Unity AI to track and hunt players dynamically throughout the bunker.
The Result
The project was a resounding success, earning the highest grade in the class. Despite the chaotic challenges of group game development, we delivered a polished experience featuring inventory management, risk-reward mechanics via in-game slot machines, and a genuine atmosphere of dread. It serves as a significant milestone in my ability to manage complex, multi-system projects under tight academic deadlines.
